Most hotel writing sorts by price or by city. This one sorts by kind. Four categories — art, capsule, casino and ice — each with four properties, chosen because they show what the category is capable of rather than what it costs.
The hotels are spread across Europe, Asia and North America. There is no home market here and no domestic bias: a capsule hotel in Kyoto is covered on the same terms as a resort on the St Lawrence.
Every entry is written as prose, not as a specification sheet, and describes the setting, what distinguishes the property, and what a stay is actually like. We do not publish star ratings, we do not collect reviews, and nothing on this site can be bought.

How the index is put together
Four properties per category, no more. A short list forces a decision about what each category is for, and it keeps every entry long enough to be worth reading. Where a category has a fixed roster, it stays fixed rather than rotating for freshness.
Facts are kept at the level that stays true: where a hotel stands, how the building came to be, what the rooms are like, what the stay involves. Precise figures that date within a season — rates, room counts, opening hours — are left to the hotels themselves.
Nothing here is paid for. There are no affiliate links, no sponsored entries and no arrangement of any kind with the properties covered. The index earns nothing from a booking because it cannot take one.
